What is descriptive statistics
Descriptive statistics are used to describe, show or summaries the basic features of a data set in a meaningful way. It provides basic summaries of the data like mean, median etc. It is very useful as if we only present data it wouldn’t make any meaning but while using descriptive analysis the same data can be presented in a very meaningful way.
How to use Descriptive Statistics in Excel
To use Descriptive Statistics in Excel we will use Data Analysis tool pack. First we will go in Data tab >> Data Analysis. After clicking Data Analysis a new box will come like below image.
This tool box contains different options like Descriptive Statistics,Histogram, Moving Average, regression etc. We will choose descriptive statistics option and then click ok. A new pop up box will come like below.
New box requires few input option like Input Range : The range of values for which we wanted our statistical analysis, Grouped By : How we wanted to group the data Column wise or row wise. Output range : Where we wanted our summary , we could choose new worksheet or new workbook as well.
We also can fix values for Confidence Level for mean, Kth Largest or Kth Smallest. We will choose options as illustrated in the below image with our dataset.
After clicking OK we will get our descriptive statistics data as shown below.
We can see there are 13 statistical summary no. available to explain our data. This is very useful data summary to understand any data set.
